Why Small Group Therapy Is Helpful for Eating Disorder Treatment

At Canopy Cove, we believe our clients are most successful when they receive eating disorder treatment in smaller groups. Our approach centers around helping our clients with creating individualized programs that help them in their battle against Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder and other eating disorders.

Generally, these groups include less than 9 people. Because of this, we’re able to provide a more focused and more supportive level of treatment than we would within a larger group setting.

Smaller groups also allow us to provide a higher ratio of therapists to clients and foster an environment of confidence, trust and supportive engagement.

In addition, these smaller groups give us the ability to individualize treatment to meet our clients exclusive needs while promoting participation by all clients – not just a few.

When Dr. Brogdon, the founder of Canopy Cove, began developing our programs, she visited numerous existing treatment centers to get an idea of what worked well and what she felt could be improved. The idea of using smaller, more intimate groups is one that has proven to be successful.

Combined with her personal experience from years of treating eating disorders, she developed Canopy Cove’s unique and highly successful approach to eating disorder treatment.
